Floats

A mikoshi is a small structure that is carried on two poles and is used in Japan as a vehicle in which to transport something that is special. In Japan, it is a portable shrine in the Shinto faith. The highlight of OCO’s Natsu Matsuri is our own version of a mikoshi in the form of a float. Groups decorate their floats with things or concepts that are special to them, and as a result…there’s a Float Parade! It’s a festive celebration that will lift your spirits and make you want to join in the fun!

OCO Club brings in various organizations that they work with or have relationships with, and have them decorate their own personalized float. It takes a lot of people to carry the festive float, many of which are adorned with lights. The floats are carried through the farm to the beat of taiko drums, accompanied by music, and joined by ondo dancers. It’s an experience that you don’t want to miss.

The sturdy float frames are made by our OCO Club members Clay Sakurao and Kobi Kozai. Organizations are more than welcome to join us and decorate a float, but you must have enough people to carry it.
